This handwoven hemp wrap skirt carries not one but two entirely distinct artisan surface decoration techniques, executed by hand on handwoven natural hemp fabric, combined into a composition that is completely original.

The front panel is treated with Japanese shibori — fabric bound and folded by hand before dyeing, creating vertical stripe patterns in deep black on natural hemp that flow organically from waistband to hem. Fluid, graphic and deeply meditative in its precision.

The side panel carries hand-drawn candle batik resist — hot wax applied by hand directly onto the fabric before dyeing, creating a bold graphic checkerboard pattern with the characteristic wax-resist crackle lines running through every square. A technique that requires both skill and patience, and delivers a result that no machine or printed process can replicate.

The waistband itself is a third artisan statement — a hand-drawn batik geometric repeat in black on natural hemp, a refined band of pattern that frames the design at the top with considered, deliberate craft.

A front split opens generously from the hem, adding ease of movement and a quiet structural drama to the clean, floor-grazing silhouette. Side pockets sit neatly within the seams, exactly where they should be.

The wrap front fastens with a discreet row of flat metal hook and bar closures sewn at evenly spaced intervals along the full length of the opening. Invisible from the outside when worn, the multiple fastening points keep the wrap firmly in place through movement without adding bulk or interrupting the clean lines of the front panel.
